Clean or replace the filter

If you want your air conditioner to work properly, you need to either regularly clean the filter or remove it as directed by the manufacturer (if reusable). In the summer and other high-use months, check it regularly, at a minimum once in the winter and early spring. Debris, grime, and other particles in the air might force the air conditioner to work harder than it needs to in order to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room if the filter isn't regularly cleaned or removed. You can consider getting breathe easy filters for a more convenient atmosphere with the facility.

Verify all connections and parts – some of these may be by your HVAC professional

Verify that no other electrical appliances or systems have been damaged before turning on the air conditioner. Before you open the access panel, make sure to disconnect it from the main power line. Once you have access to the component parts, you should look for signs of damage, such as melted insulation, crushed wires, and so on. Any signs of trouble with any component should prompt serious consideration of air conditioning repair service.

Check the thermostat

A properly functioning thermostat maintains a comfortable temperature throughout your home and can be adjusted as needed. If your air conditioner's thermostat isn't working properly, consider upgrading to a programmable model.

Check the condenser fan

The AC condenser fan is permanently installed atop the outdoor control panel. Make sure the fan blades are in good shape by inspecting them for cracks and fixing them if necessary.

Scrub the outside component

In time, the outer condenser unit surface will become caked in dust, grime, and other debris, reducing airflow and the overall effectiveness of the system. Dust and debris should be removed completely from the machine's exterior.

With these tips you can easily ensure that you air condition unit is working well.
